    Unhappy Sugema`s Gizzard Shad Problem

Did you guys hear of this? Write ups in the Ottumwa Courier online says the DNR has already started to work on a solution to fix the shad infestation problem.

Officials take aim at gizzard shad » Local News » The Ottumwa Courier

My brother and a few of our friends have rented a cabin the last couple of years during the crappie spawn for several days and was wondering if it would still be worth going there next year during spawn with this problem looming.
We have noticed the average crappie size has been decreasing the last couple years.
Sounds kinda drastic what the DNR has to do to fix this problem. Hopefully there will be minimal collateral damage to the other fish species there using the chemical Rotenone.

Has anyone heard any different news reguarding talk about the shad that the news article doesnt bring up? Just want to be in the know in case we need to have a change if plans on which lake to fish if this one is going to be in turmoil for a few years.

I've only heard bits and pcs. about the problem. I hate seeing them use chemicals like that, but I'm hoping (and I'm sure they do) know a lot more about the problem and solutions than I do.
