I have long lined in the spring using road runner spinners with hollow tubes (2”) injected with crappie nibbles, best colors chartreuse and a also a yellow/orange and snagged a few up to 17.75” long. Not a lot, but in the spring on the flats above the causeway in 10’ to 14’ deep water as the big ones seem to like scarce stumps near creek channels. The lake is slowly coming back in my opinion as also a couple of guides are showing more slabs even occasionally. Once the water hits 50 degrees you will see me go to crankbaits. But, on the main lake, I have found really decient occassional schools of nice size crappie of 12” or more near creek channels in 20’ to 30’ or more water and those schools are scattered. When you find one, you will not find small fish in them. The schools on the main lake move a lot and are hard to locate 2 days in a row of fishing. They seem to follow the bait fish and roam along the main creek channels. Hard to fish the main lake tho due to boat traffic. I’m going to fish a lot more this year Monroe and Patoka as both are showing better crappie than in the past 5 yrs.
Looks like I’ll be taking a 3+ hour drive

Before you drive that distance, do a posting here for information on Monroe and check on the condition it is in. Last year it was up 8-9 ft all the way thru August and lots of launch ramps were closed and fishing was way different than when the lake is normal. Right now it’s high and muddy in over half the lake. 11 k acres can grow a third more water in high water sometimes.
Keep your eye on the lake levels. Louisville District Daily Lake Report
Definitely will, thanks for the info

some stories are hard for me to believe also. However, this one came from someone I know of in DNR and I still find it hard to believe. There are lots of good fish in the lake. You just have to hunt for them if you know how to fish Monroe. Do you know Monroe or fish it much?
Here is a 16.5” and a 17.5”. I didn’t have a scale. You just have to find them as there are good fish in Monroe.
