Default New battle scar from VA

Just came out of hernia operation and will not be driving or bouncing around for next 7 days with this new battle scar from 7 yr old hernia I had VA finally take care of for me. Great doc and staff of nurses and techs did awesome job so will be good to go fishing in a week or so. Post some catches for me and make me drool! I chose to walk out and thru parking lot to car vs use a wheel chair so doing just fine.

Been there done that. I had an umbilical hernia repaired and it hurt to even blink my eyes for the first two days... and the idea of coughing or sneezing was something I lived in mortal fear of. In my case the surgeon cut three quarters of the way around my naval forming a "trap door" of sorts for inserting the hernia repair mesh. Once he put the mesh in place he stitched the muscle tissue closed and then the trap door and that was that. By day three I was getting around pretty good but had very strict orders not to lift anything heavier than my coffee cup for several weeks... nothing heavier than ten pounds for two months... and twenty pounds for six months if I remember correctly.

Prayers sent for speedy and uneventful recovery.

Thanks for the prayers and thoughts. This is my second hernia and the bulge was starting to enlarge and so,I decided it was time to get it taken care of and after all was done, doc said everything went fine and was glad we got it done when we did. 7 days no driving and 4-6 weeks of not lifting over 10 lbs. I go back in 4 weeks for checkup. Will follow his orders and just take advantage of this situation and turn the wife into a slave?

I'll probably have to have it done one of these years. My hernia might be different than most. I don't look forward to that day. Something I learned after my cancer surgery, drugs are your friends (within reason). Unfortunately I still take some for lingering pain. Take care, do what the Docs say and let the little woman pamper you. You deserve it.

Best wishes to you and I hope you don't go stir crazy over the next week.
My step son lives in Tampa and is a Vet having done 2 tours in the Middle East, he took some shrapnel.
The VA has taken good care of him with that and 2 bouts with cancer.
The cancer is gone but his back is still a mess, we feel blessed to still have him.

I have received great treatment by our VA hospital in Indy especially as busy as the place is constantly. I had a previous hernia operation in 2004 by Good hospital in Hendricks Co. outside Indy and had 5 in the operating room for lapiscopic surgery. I was totally amazed at all the presurgery tests and physicalsI went thru, then when wheeled into the operating room, have a team of 9 work on me on this one. Definitely Kudos to the VA and the treatment I get there. Great people and great care in my book! You have my prayers for your son and his service.
