I"m assuming you are referring to Loon north of Columbia City off of 109? It's about another 20 minutes east of Warsaw. I typically fish there a couple of times a year. Crappie seem to be good in there, I haven't been there this year yet, except for one time on the ice where I completely struck out. I have night fished there in the late summer and fall a fair amount in the past. I have caught a few big ones, but most of the fish I find there are solid 10-11" fish. A majority of the gills in there are stunted, so it's hard to catch any keeper gills. Also some perch to be had, although I have never caught a lot of them. I also have night fished it quite a bit. It seems to night fish pretty well with lights.

I haven't done well at Loon this year for anything, but maybe that's just me. With all of the rain this year, a lot of the lakes I fish in the area are either no wake or no motorized boats at all this year due to high water levels. Just my two cents worth.

Remember goose season opens in September. Won't hurt if your fishing at night though.

Great point MG. I would not have thought of that.
Taking a kid fishing makes the world a better place one memory at a time.

Might have to jump in w you Tator140 unless you'll have a full boat, then I could drag my boat up that day. Hopefully I can make it but would depend on the new baby that plans on popping in on Sept 1.

I heard through the grapevine that you guys were talking about me over here! LOL

As far as crappie lakes in the Warsaw/Warsaw area...I have never caught that many crappies at Winona nor have I at Pike. The Barbee Chain is good if you can find them. I havent fished Loon in years, but when I did it was always for gills. A dandy of one not to far away from Loon is High, but it is a private ramp you have to pay to access. Silver Lake is a good one but there are access issues there.

To be honest I really dont know what to tell you guys. When it comes to crappie I stick close to the house fishing the private lake just down the road from me. Sorry I cant be of more help.

Know they were catching decent crappie at winona earlier this year, saw some pictures from there of very nice ones. Barbee has good ones, but hard to find most of the time, as does webster lake.

Carr lake used to have some really nice black crappie, but haven't fished it in years. Good luck with the outing, I try and do the same thing with bass fishermen, and it can be tough getting people to show up it seems. We usually get about 10 to actually come, but it is always fun putting faces to the names.

Carr Lake is an interesting one. It is about 8 miles due west of me, but dont fish it much at all and when I do it is through the ice. Cant speak of the crappie there. But I can tell you that it would be a perfect place for an outing. With all the lakes in the area, it gets overlooked quite a bit. Has good parking and is pretty secluded. It sits just south of Warsaw.
