Wondering if any one has checked the ice on small water for us southern icers. I am thinking that small sheltered ponds may be fishable by Saturday. May get to the country today and check some ponds. Will report my findings.

BTW, I got a report from one of my friends yesterday. He has 3-3 1/2" on his ponds in the Bloomington area.

I checked five ponds yesterday. Mine had just over 2 inches but it is highly exposed. The other four more than 2 inches but not three yet. There is likely three inches today. It is good ice but nothing I am comfortable on just yet. Calling for freezing rain/ snow Sunday. If it is rain our ice will most likely rot quickly.
4 inches on a pond just North of Columbus today. It is pretty much out of the wind. Brother caught about 15 nice gills.
South of Terre Haute, smaller ponds are around 4-5" currently. Obviously depends on how open they are to wind and what day they started to freeze. Some of the ponds I check were fairly late freezers though, I'd say they all have over 3" for the most part.
Your bigger lakes I doubt are safe ice, they held open water till late week.
4 inches of ice on a larger lake in NE Brown County. I did not fish just drilled a hole to check ice. I am sure it is not that thick in the larger part of the lake.
Went fishing last night in Mooresville on a 7 acre lake . 5-6 iches of ice
