    Default River Fishing

This stretch of river I've started fishing holds a lot of promise. I've marked multiple submerged trees and slack water areas around bridge pylons. Took the kids out for some recon the other night, but with toddlers in the boat it was not the most productive. I think that fishing tournaments would be on prime time television if they paired every pro with a toddler.

I've upped the weight on my double hook rigs by 1/4oz for spider rigging on the river and switch to 1/8 road runners. Anyone else here fish rivers for crappie and how is it different than lake fishing.

Taking a kid fishing makes the world a better place one memory at a time.

river fishing for the big ones mostly dictates jigging wood. i cant imagine spider rigging in timber at all. same with bobbers in timber. thats just asking for a snag. they hold in tree tops close to shore in deep water. look for where the channel cuts the shoreline. trash on the channels edge about anywhere can hold good crappie. when the current gets stronger, the slacker water areas get loaded up. locations can be very predictable! watch river flow chart on the net. a change in current can flip on the bite switch! it can also shut it down. learn how your fish react by studying the charts and fishing. use scent and scented plastics to seal the deal. use bigger baits than you would in a lake too. being very stealthy is a must. if you bump cover or snag and yank its over! jig gentile and vertical to avoid hangups. swim jig all around the cover shallow, deep, and all sides. there can be sweet spots that hold all the fish. current, shade, and bait can dictate this. if you dont probe you miss out. reach out and lower that jig in "the land of no return" and you shall be rewarded. lol im sure there are a thousand things im leaving out. thats a good start that you can build on, as your water dictates though.
    great pics by the way.
