Yep, that's them, alright !! They've shown up in several lakes around here, on & off through the years (that I've seen). And they do seem to really like submerged trees/branches to cling onto.

Lots of people (on other sites) have inquired about them ... some thinking they were some kind of fungus, eggs of unknown or various species, and various other things.
