What shiner size do you like
What size do you like for crappie a few weeks back i ordered 2 pounds of 2 to 3 inch shiners from local shop and done well with them i ordered some more went today and picked my order up and got a bunch of 3.5 to 4.5 inchers the shop said i get what minnow man brings im not real thrilled right now will a crappie hit a 4.5 inch shiner
-
I prefer smaller minners. 1.5 inches
-
oh yes they will eat those! use shad that size all the time.
-
I used both sizes tues we had better luck on big ones bigger fish

You might not catch as many fish, but I bet you catch more quality fish. Bigger bait, bigger fish is what I have always been told. Of course, I have seen that not hold true, but for the most part it does.
-
I think it matters but I am more along the lines of what size the bait fish are at the time. Early, I prefer larger then post spawn like 1 - 1-1/2 and get larger from then on. Bigger baits often result in bigger fish but fewer fish. However, this year in my area I think its going to be anything goes because nothing holds true forever and the inconsistent weather has the fishing unpredictable.

I like 2"ones for tipping tube jigs with. It seems to weed out the peewee specks.
-
An I wish I could get them big ones to run my lines

I was catching crappie last fall with 4" shad sticking out of their throats. I think a crappie will eat anything it can fit in its mouth, judging by the 6" fish I catch on crankbaits every year.

i would agree with that, cubs. i have caught 12" crappie, through the ice, with 4" gills in them!
