What was the water color like?
-
I was there sat and it was pretty muddy, talked to a couple guys who were in tourneys and they were not doing well, actually I didnt see a fish all day!

Water was stained still north end. Mid lake wasn't too bad. Caught the crappies in the stained water though.

I fished Brookville yesterday and did ok. I ended up with one walleye, one smallmouth, and about fifteen crappie. The water is looking good with a little stain. I caught everything on Bobby Garland slab slayers ,black and pink, and chartreuse flake. the walleye, smallmouth, and a few crappie were caught in about 6ft of water. I did manage some nicer crappie hovering over deep timber in as much as 60ft of water, about 30ft down. Take your pick on how and where you want to catch them right now.

I did notice that the tea colored water, I guess algea bloom, or maybe its large schools of very small fry. This happens every spring on Brookville and if you find it you find a lot of other fish around it, so I am assuming that its part of the food chain in some shape or form.

Nice report Bluedrifter, keep a tight line.

Thanks cevans! The tea, or coffee colored water could be from lake turn over. I noticed it at bonwell ramp today. There are tons of small shad at the surface and I noticed fish feeding on them in open water and against the banks. Some of the feeding sounded like crappie, but I am sure it is a little bit of everything. It is about time for the white bass to start spawning along the dam if they are not already there. I talked to a couple at the ramp and they said they caught quite a few crappie, smallmouth, and some walleye.

I went up to the lake yesterday afternoon and bank fished for a couple hours. I was casting to deeper water but the fish were biting close to the surface. I ended up catching 15-20 white bass,3 walleye, and 1 smallmouth. I was throwing a pearl yellow or gold twister tail in the coffee colored water. As soon as the jig hit the water I would start a steady retrieve. Even the walleye hit just below the surface. I did catch a few letting the bait sink but most were caught close to the surface.

Thanks for the update bluedrifter.
Did you get any crappie activity yesterday? Does the water seem like it is finally starting to clear up?
My buddy and I are going to try to get our Friday.

they are having the slab masters tour. this weekend so I have been staying away from my crappie till then. me and a buddy went up above the lake in the river and fished for white bass today. we caught a bunch but not as big as the ones I caught the other day on the lake. a buddy of mine fishes the river down around Lawrenceburg and he had about thirty big crappies yesterday. the lake still had that tannic colored water most places I went yesterday, with some of it even being red-ish colored in some areas.
