Default Big Long Lake - Lagrange County...

Okay...my in-laws just bought a house on Big Long...they sold their place on the Coldwater chain up in Michigan which had great crappie fishing!!!

I'm curious as to what type of crappie fishing I can expect on Big Long?

I'm told there is decent gill fishing...but I'm wanting to find out about the crappie opportunities on Big Long...anyone have any insight they are willing to share?

    Thanks!
    Joe.

I don't know anything about Big Long but not far from that is a chain that has Steinbarger, Jones, Waldron, and Tamarack. There was an article in the Indiana Game and Fish a few years ago that claimed it was the best for crappie in the NE part of the state. There are some good fish there!

While we have a trailer...the boat will spend most of the year "on" Big Long since we have a boat lift there...I've ice fished Turkey and most of the other lakes in that area as suggested above...I'm really wanting to know if Big Long has crappies and if so what areas should I try and look at...

Thanks for the suggestions thus far!

I have a small trailer on Big Long Lake and have fished it for many years. We use to catch our crappies down on the Northeast side of the lake out in front of Yakee Trailer park. Once the water warmed up they would move into the channel. I would also try the bay on the west end of the lake. I runs about 4ft but in the back south west corner it goes down to about 8-10 ft. We also tried a few times at night with some success This is lake is more known for its Bluegill, Redear and Perch. Once it gets closer look me up and we will head out. I usually leave my boat on the trailer in case I want to move around. Got a 17.5 incher from Turkey Lake on the wall at home. Has a good night bite once you locate them.
