Wanting to buy a new rod for jig and float fishing. Everything I find on the racks are buggy whips. Is there anything out there with a little more backbone and a fast taper. I looking for more accuracy on short casts and flipping. Most of the rods I've seen seem to load up to much. Any suggestions? Thanks.
BTW, wanting something around 7 ft

try a 7ft light action okuma celilo ce-s-702L-1. found 1st one on e-bay like it so well ended up getting 3 more.
BnM makes a rod especially for float and fly

True .... but, the shortest one is 8' long and has a short handle with counter balance weight system. It's also not exactly a "fast taper" action. I know about this rod, because I fieldtested it for BnM before they went to market.
If he's looking for a 7 to 9 ft fast taper rod, and isn't going to be using slip floats ... I suggest he look at the Norsemen Outdoors ESP line of rods. I also fieldtested for ESP !! I don't recommend them for slip float use, because they have micro guides/tip eye ... which are not user friendly with most bobber stops.
If interested in ESP rods ... check out their website for models/styles, but call or check the catalog of Grizzly Jigs for a better price (if they carry the model of interest). PM me for any questions about these rods, as I may not remember to check back on this thread.

Yeah, it's not the type/style of float that's the problem ... it's the micro tip eye & guides of the ESP rods that won't let many of the bobber stops pass through them. You could still use an ESP rod, but you'd likely be limited to the length of the rod as to how deep you could set your bobber stop.
If I may ... I'd suggest looking at something a little longer than 7ft, if you intend to fish very deep with the slip floats. Reason being ... the longer rod will work much better at taking up slack line on the hookset, especially if the float is very far away and/or the jig is usually deeper than 5 or 6 feet.

I'm wanting a rod just for shallow water. I primarily fish shallow in the Ohio river when I go crappie fishing.
I am a long long way from being a master crappie fisher man. I mostly slip bobber minner fish. Last few years been pushing myself to use jigs more. Vertical and tossin 'em. 'Bout 3 years ago I talked to a really great guy at Grizzly Jigs and after he listened to me ramble on 'bout my lack of skill and stuff, he recommended the BnM 7 1/2 ft. "Crappie Wizard". Got it, used it, ordered another one. And as recommend on this site also, I put Shmanno(sp) Senora reels on both rods.
Very very happy happy with my two rigs.
