Went out this afternoon after the storms went through. My first sign should have been 85 degree water temp at the East dock. Wind was blowing consistently at 10-15+. As y’all know the wind blows from all directions on this lake so trying to fish was not easy.
Long story short, there are TONS of small, very skinny and very hungry crappie on every single piece of brush from 6’ to 18’. Jig or minnow dropped was hammered in a second. I did try shallow briefly, but there was nothing of quality shallow with the water that warm...or maybe I’m doing it wrong.
The power plant must be running for the water to be that warm, even considering the hot weather we’ve had this past week...I don’t know.
It’s looking to be a windy, colder, holiday weekend, so I guess I will go back and try again tomorrow...maybe West, or maybe further South on the East arm below the hot water.
Caught 50+ fish in 2 hours, all of them skinny and starving looking, maybe spawned out...3 of them might have been 10”, kept none.
What do y’all think? Is the plant running? Is the spawn over?
