Fished a retention pond in plainfiled. Haven't hit that one in two or threee years. Got there at 1pm. Was slow got a few bass on minnow. Moved over a few yards and me and friend got 78 black crappie in 2.5 hours. Minnows were working ok but they were getting stolen. Switched to kalin crappie scrub un bobber the bobber would be under by the time the jig fell beneath it.
I'm guessing water was 45 or 46. That was temp at my house on similar size water. Tonight water in yard dropped to 44. I have not seen a crappie in my lake since spring 2016 when they disappeared. Fish were all blacks. From 7 inches and one 12 inches on last cast most were about ten and most thin.
Might be best day of crappie fishing I ever had. Started targeting them serious in 2014 after going to shelbyille and watching crappie magnet video
They seemed to be avoiding the water with ripple from wind they were just next to that in flat water. When sun made brief appearances bite would slow.
Still having problems with pictures posting. Photo bucket gave me a hard time years back so I gave up
many of these ponds have them I assume they taste like motor oil though. I used to live on a one acre pond that was loaded with them. Only get them in fall winter and spring never in summer.
