Im taking my dad out on a crappie fishing trip to Shabbona in two weeks. We are plannng on heading out in the morning. Ive heard reports tnat theyre hitting on the cribs and deep submerged tree tops. Anyone have any tips for mid summer fishing
Are minnows a sure thng in the summer? Or would jigs work better, or a combination of both? I usually try for crappie in the river so its different than fishing tem in a deep lake.
I know there arent many that fish this lake o the forum but im hoping someone has some tips or advice.

The fish cribs have already been a sure bet for me there. Also, any floating vegetation should hold a few as well. If you have electronics you can find fish cribs easily. If not, they have laminated maps at the bait shop. Stop in there they are always willing to give you good tips

I typically like to spider rig. However in that lake those fish hold extremely tight to the cribs. I go back to the basics with a slip bobber and a minnow. Works like a charm. There's also an old road bed out there that tends to hold the bigger fish.

Thanks for the tips. Im thinking single pole fishing for us, no spider rigging yet. Sounds like a few dozen minnows, some jigs and hooks, slip floats and well be good to go.

definitely the deep trees. fish should be 10-14ft down the sportsman club added trees to the existing trees in the east bay fish the eastern most in the bay there a 2more trees we added . they are upside down look for the cut trunk sticking out of the water which is tied to an existing tree its between the restaurant point and the spillway the tree was weighted by the tip and lays on a angle in 30 ft of water rich mc
