That's because right now 8-10 foot of water is the old shoreline. Lots of flooded grass, trees, roots, etc in that water depth right now!

As for bait, use a throw net for shad, if legal their. Otherwise bait shrimp on an octopus or circle hook, i get them confused. They self impale a lot better. On fingers also!
