I've never been fond of spinning reels but have them on all my crappie rods (mainly longlining). This year I'd like to have a lightweight/good quality rod/reel casting combo that I can cast sm cranks/roadrunners and the like. I found a Diawa Pixi Beware the Pixy! | Daiwafishing reel that weighs 5.4oz. But for $400 No Way.Anyone have a setup like this or have any suggestions?

The las flueger reals I bought went back......shimano it is! Sorry to say this because I used f,s for years but this deal went south!!
Some people can do know right...keep trying!!
IMO, you're not gonna find an affordable baitcaster that will do what you want. That leaves you with two options:
1) Spincast - I would suggest one of the new Zebco Omega's or an old Johnson Century from ebay.
2) Learn to love the spinning reel. They're designed for casting light baits. I would suggest a Daiwa or Shimano that fits your budget.
Regardless which brand you go with you want one with zero back lash. What I mean is when you stop turning the handle it should not be able to go the other way at all I love my Flueger s I have some shimanos Abu s you name it Sorry you got a bad run on yours Wizzard
Did I misread ur post your looking for bait aster reel or spiinng ? For bait caster Academy Sports has thier own line right handed only. Easy to use my boys have them I have a couple. Use it more than my Abu revo. I can tell the difference obviously Abu at $200 is a great reel but for the money you can't beat the Academy bait caster. Only comes in right handed. No leftys
Pflugher is the way to go
I like the Shimano Spirex series. Comes in a couple of styles depending on line weight. Can't beat the automatic bale release. Cost: $59 at BPS.
