Default What to do with thin ice?

Went fishing today from the docks with two- three inches of ice on the lake. Didn't even get a bump. They obviously have gone deep and the ice is too thin to go find them. ( also, I don't have a boat in the water).

My question is,"will the crappie move back into the shallows when the ice thaws or do I have to wait til spring to fish again?"

Great. I feel better now. This is my first winter season fishing and I was afraid the season was over once they went deep.
