Your lead needs to be as pure as possible, I have found wheel weights today are to full of tin and zink. Do yourself a favor and go to a big box store and buy a 5lb lead ingot, or a plumbing store. If u pour small jigs -1/16,1/32nd they will fill perfectly. Now if your filling larger jigs like 1/4 and larger older weights are fine. Go on ebay for some lead options. 5lbs of pure lead will give u a great many jigs. Dave

Around here there's a couple scrapyards that you can buy "scrap" from and they will have some of the soft lead, lead sheets. The plumbing lead is soft and work very good.I have got some Sheetrock that had lead on one side ,it was very soft.Like fireman said, the pure lead,,soft lead works the best.

Read all the safety precautions dealing with hot lead!! Do-it bait co sells lead at a good prices free shipping!! Grizzly jig has the best prices if you drive to Grizzly jig, lureparstonline has good prices,Duck decoy weights are a good buy after duck season!! Their are several metal co that sell lead but the shipping is more tha the lead cost!! I am Sure other places We like the lee hot pot electric ladel!! Have two keep lead in them ready to pour!! Have had these several years( 80's) have got the bigger pots but always go back to the hot pots to pour!! Not a pro by any means but what works for us!!!! We like #2 and #4 for crappie!! #4 for 1/16 and smaller,#2's for 1/8 and bigger sizes!! but keep the bigger sizes for our bass fishing folks!! #1's to 5/0!!
