Welcome bush pilot. Eagle Creek Campgrounds is right on the water but a short drive to the ramp and is centrally located where you can go north or south but there is plenty of good fishing right in that area too. The camping area where camp will be is in Quail Drive. Just 5 more weeks til camp.
Thank you Bowhunter can't wait to fly in i'll be looking for a nice spot on the beach to mooring up to a nice oak tree and off load my gear.
Bush Pilot, not sure the AOE will let ya land on the lake, I will call and find out for ya. If not, there isa small airport right outside od town where you can land and I can pick ya up and take ya to the lake.
MY Water Landing Directory says they are open to land but let me know thank you .
This would be a first for Crappie Camp. Our own Bush Pilot, with float plane and everything. :cheers2

I talked to Lee yesterday with the ACOE and he said he has never heard of anyone landing on Shelbyville but is going to check into it and have Jeremy call me tomorrow with all the answers. That would be cool to use your plane to spider rig or pull cranks with LOL. I keep you posted as soon as I find anything out.
Don't want to burst any bubbles ,but it wouldn't be a first . I saw one land and take off after a short taxi around the coon creek area. It was during one of the balloon launches. I assumed it was with the balloons like a chase vehicle or something.

Float planes aren� a common sight at Lake Shelbyville, but two arrived on Tuesday making an overnight stopover on their way to Florida.

Visitors who fly in to Lake Shelbyville in the winter time are usually of the feathered sort. However, on Wednesday the lake was host to an uncommon area sight, two float planes moored next to the Ninth St. Beach area.
The two planes, a Cessna 172 and Piper Super Cruiser were piloted by Brian Schanche and Matt Holleman of Minneapolis, MN. They had picked Lake Shelbyville as one of their scheduled stopovers on the way from Surf Side Seaplane Base in Lino Lakes, Minnesota to Florida. The two planes left home on Monday and landed on Lake Shelbyville Tuesday night.
Certain regulations apply for plane landings on US Army Corps of Engineers lakes and property.
Corps Park Ranger Maria Shafer said, “We have a policy concerning seaplane operation on Corps lakes which states they can’t land within 300 feet of a developed recreation area or shoreline which makes landing near Dam West, campgrounds, and bridges off limits. They couldn’t take off from Findlay because of the Findlay Bridge. They could have gone north or south of there to land or take off but they are fairly limited as to where they can land. There is also a fairly wide area south of the Findlay bridge that is suitable. They just have to maintain the 300’ distance.”
Schanche, owner of Adventure Seaplanes explained that their business relocates to Florida in the winter, “Because the lakes in Minnesota are a little too hard this time of year.” This is the second year the business has moved winter operations to Florida.
Lake Shelbyville was the second stopover on the 1400 mile trip, beginning just north of Minneapolis to Haines City, FL where Schanche will conduct seaplane rental and training in the off-season. The entire trip takes about 15 hours.
Schanche’s girlfriend, Lori Malbrank, provides ground support and was currently on her way to the next stopover at Lake Guntersville in Alabama. Schanche maintains communications with her and Holleman via cell phone.
Although brief, Schanche said he and Holleman enjoyed their stay in Shelbyville. Schanche commented, “Ken Fry, owner of the Shelby Inn, was kind enough to have transportation arranged for us to and from the planes. I want to extend a special thanks to Ken for taking care of us. I highly recommend the Shelby Inn.”
Park Ranger Ken Pierson noted, “They landed in the main lake last night and taxied in to tie up at the Dam West recreation area. I went down there to check on them this morning and I was told everything was in line with Corps regulations. This is the first time I can recall seeing any float planes on Lake Shelbyville. I saw one on Rend Lake once, but in my 15 years at Lake Shelbyville, this is the first time I can recall seeing any on the lake, especially two at once. That is pretty rare.”
It may not be as rare an occurance in the future. Schanche said he will be coming back this way in the spring en route to his summer location in Minnesota.
Float Planes are not that uncommon. They land and gas up at Lithia Springs Marina when passing through to there destination..
No problem bowhunter i can use 2HO- county airport. I will have to refuel their anyway and a buddy can pick me up. the weather will play a big part if i fly do to vfr. thank you let me know .

Hey bush pilot, just got off the phone with Jeremy with the Army Corp of Engineers and welcomes you to land on our lake. Just a few rules to go by. You have to land in an area at least 100 yards from shore and once you land you have to abide by all Coast Guards rules for vessels. Eagle Creek area is 1 of the great spots on the lake to land. I'm not planning on fishing the Crappie USA tournament, but more than likely will go check it out.
I'm not ready to enter major tournaments yet. Need to work on a few other techniques, and I need a bigger boat, or at least longer range ad faster. 8 mph limits where I can go on big lakes. My goal is o fish them within the next two years.
Thanks to everyone that came to camp. Pre camp weather was horrible but you could not of ask for a more perfect star lite night with awesome music, great food and a greater bunch of people to share it all with.
