Whent to seminar this weekend in tinley about lowrance electronics. Dissapointed to find out Humminbird is inferior to said units as I have a 1 year old Humminbird unit on my trolling motor and I would like to get a dash unit to match in network any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

I have Lowrance because that is what I like but there is nothing wrong with Humminbird and would not wory about adding another unit and networking them together. I was told that Lowrance is more high tech and hummingbird was more user friendly ( this from a salesman at dealership that uses Hummingbird himself) i have a HDS 7 touch screen and it is a lot more user friendly than my old non touch units. Don't worry about what everybody says use what works for you and you are comfortable with. None of them are any good if you can't figure out how to use them.

The number 1 bass fisherman and number 1 crappie fisherman use Humminbird. Nuff said, both are good products, you just need to know how to use them. Customer service on HB is hard to beat. HB is now out with two more new units that is going to blow everything away for this year. I run two HB 1199 on my boat. Good Luck

I have a 1 year old 998 hd si I bought last fall. It has already helped me catch a lot more crappie. But, I'm like you, my screen pictures don't seem to even come close to the pictures people post on Lowrance units. And when I go over known brush piles they barely show up. If I had it to do again I'd get an hds 7 touch.

Six of one, half a dozen of the other... Steve has his views and knows his stuff. I bet if the Bird offered to put Steve on the payroll, he'd be fine running Birds. I have fished both and I think Lowrance wins with DI and the Bird wins with SI. I own Lowrance (HDS8 and HDS10) and am very happy, but if I would have known about Ipilot Link, I probably would have bought the Bird a few years ago. I do think Lowrance has a sharper picture as well.

Maybe I'm too picky but to me the hummingbird has pretty good side imaging, but it still isn't as clear but it doesn't black out. I heard the Lowrance blacks out bad on side imaging is why I went with hummnbird. But the 2d and down imaging are not good at all in my opinion, so I bought an elite 7x to put on trolling motor for down imaging and 2d. hopefully this will satisfy me, I'm pretty picky. I wish I had the money to buy one of the new humminbirds they are supposed to have the down imaging crystal in them, but Lowrance 2d has always been much easier for me to pick structure from the bottom.

Like said above steve and talon are lowrance rep and they are very good at putting together a presentation to sway people into buying lowrance product. That being said a bird user could do the same thing. Doug V. has done it many many times. I personally am a bird guy, but will openly admit I feel that lowrance has a better DI image. I have very satisfied with HB SI though and find anything that I am looking for. Its all about aquiring the eye to the screen to pick up very faint returns. I run humminbird on the front on 2d strictly and never have had a problem. I believe like most, its user preference, both get the job done and both companies have a heckuva lot better technology than we had 5 years ago!

There both great units, the best way to teach yourself how to use them.Is to go out on your lake and leave all fishing gear at home. do this for a week, play with your settings, than go back out the next week with all your gear and see if you see fish in the spots you looked at the week before and fish them. I know it sounds crazy, but it helped me very much

I think if you go with the 959 stricly di on the trolling motor that uses a di cyrstal only you will find the image is as good as lowrance at least that is what everyone tells me.

And if your running anything less than a 898 998 or a 1198 it is inferior to what they are running but dont let that make you change, you cant go wrong with either both good units just different
