    Default Clinton Lake?

Hi guys, I'm new here, been reading on here for a while now, finally decided to register. Anyone on here fish Clinton Lake much? I see a lot of Shelbyville and Rend, but not anything on clinton. Thinking about heading there this weekend to try and catch some crappie because its fairly close to were i live. Just wondering if anyone been on the lake lately and how its been?

Fished it last Saturday with a buddy and had a double limit of 10" plus blacks and black nose with a few whites in the mix. Talked to a guy fishing with his buddy and two young boys and they were doing as well. Clinton is doing a lot better than last year but the lake is still low, add 18 inches of water and it would be on fire! We were fishing red/chartreuse on 1/16 oz jigs, lay downs 2 to 6 feet of water. Good luck and go get some!!!

I fished there yesterday afternoon. Only caught four keepers. Three were 8' deep in 12 FOW around stumps. Other was 2' deep in 5 FOW. All on a tight lined orange/chartreuse Shineee Hineee. Tried jigs under bobbers but bite was too light to hook them.

Had a few hours yesterday afternoon so my older son and I met up with my brother. Caught eleven keepers. Fished a cove that offered some protection from the wind. We caught all our crappie on the southern side of the cove which surprised me since I thought they might prefer the warmer, sunny water but that was the turbulent side of the cove, too. Go figure. Most fish were caught in 10-12 FOW 5' deep. Pretty close to shore around stumps and laydowns.

Stopped at Ol' Joes in Dewitt for minnows and some jig bodies. First time I've stopped there. We used to fish Clinton a lot with my dad when we were kids but this week is the first time back in years. Joe was very helpful. He said red/chartreuse flake and blue/silver flake were the ticket. But he also said we would catch the big ones on the minnows. He was right. My son schooled us. I think he caught more fish than my brother and I combined. We were fishing two poles each and he had one. lol. The bass almost broke his lightweight pole. The crappie were also bending his pole in half getting them in the boat. Might be time for an upgrade. Heh.

Clinton is a Great Lake with good quality fish. Print a contour map and fish the river channel banks. Start in 12' and move in.
