Default First Crappie of the year

Been busy chasing ducks, pheasants, deer, dark geese, more ducks and deer, more dark geese and then finally wrapped it all up two weeks ago today with the best Snow goose hunt in Illinois ever.

Had to take a breather and get some work done for my job last weekend and then this morning my new Snow goose hunting buddy Arick took me out to Sangchris which is his home turf! He had been doing great and we hit the water at 6:15 AM and there were already boats in front and coming up behind us.

Did I say this was Arick's home turf?

Well, it sure is and while we had a tough day - and everyone we talked to did too - we ended up with a really good haul. Had three-13" Crappie, two-11" to 12" Crappie, and eight under 11 but over 10"!!!

In addition, we took three nice Bass and threw back a number of Bluegill and smaller Crappie. The Crappie were split seven females and six males.

This was a VERY different experience for me as I am use to Lake Shelbyville where there is a ton of structure and most ALL of it is visible. At Sangchris there are numerous stake-beds and submerged trees but very little visible unless you know where they are at and have good electronics.

Well Arick knows this body of water and showed me the true meaning of tight-lining! This was VERY difficult for me who is use to seeing what I am fishing against or near as 90+% of the time I just had to depend on Arick for where to drop my jig. We used Bobby Garland tubes for the most part (Hey Scheels and Gander Mountain, how about carrying these in stock!) in a chartreuse and black or glitter with a weedless head. He really knows his stuff for a 26 year old!

Anyway, until I get the routine maintenance for my boat done, I am on the sidelines and dependent on others.

Again, my sincere thanks to Arick for taking me and showing me the ropes at Sangchris!

Glad to have you back Bob, and all this time I thought you were chasing Skirts, not ducks
