    Angry Bummed

I am bummed out because I have fished pretty much all winter long and couldn't wait for the weather to start popping. Now that it is, my boat needs repaired. I took it to East Side Marine 2 weeks ago because the motor was not "peeing". I told them what was going on and I assumed it was the impeller. I also had a fuel leak and had pretty much narrowed that down to the fuel pump. I could have done these things myself but we left to go on vavation and didn't have time to do the work. Trying to save time I figured they could do it fo me while I was gone, right? Yesterday was 2 weeks that they had my boat. They supposedly changed the impeller, but not the fuel pump as it had not come in yet (2 weeks?). So I picked up the boat and took it home and replace the fuel pump myself when it came in. So I was going to take it out today, but when I hooked up the hose to make sure everyhting was going to stay cool, no water was coming out, still. GRRRRR! I am not going to bad mouth East Side because I have worked with Steve and his mechanics for several years now and they have always treated me right. But if I was going to $500 (which I was SHOCKED at the anount) to change an impeller and fuel pump on a 1979 Evinrude 70hp, then it should work, right? The fuel pump was still working, by the was, it just had a small leak that was causing some cold start issues. Now I have to take it back and find out what is wrong. I'm sorry just frustrated and needed to vent. Thanks for listening. banghead

I'm not sure about outboards but when I had the same impeller problem on my sailboat's diesel engine a broken impeller fin had lodged inside the exit tube.

Hope you're out on the water soon.

Summer before last I got to replace the stator and rectifier ($300 for parts only). Last summer I put on a new foot control, and replaced the water pump on the engine. Last month got to buy a new deep cycle batt. Now, I have water getting in the lower unit! Will get the parts on Monday and tear into it. Might have to buy a case of beer!
All this and I just got permission to get a different boat! Ever hear what boat stands for?

Feelin a little bit better now. I got the impeller replaced and there was sand and muck clogging up the line. It has been cleared out and is pumping great, once again. I got the fuel pump and fuel line and replaced them myself and then serviced the lower unit. All is well, just some hiccups along the way, but hey, that's boat ownership, right?! Thanks for letting me vent, guys.
