    Default Question - Rend Lake

My wife and I finally were able to go fishing again last weekend. We fished Crab Friday-Monday and were very disappointed in the size of the fish (caught very few keepers). I also have this weekend off so we are headed out tomorrow for 4 days and thought we would try Rend again.
We have never camped at Rend - is Gun Creek a good campground? Also, do they allow tents?
Also, any general information on fishing will be greatly appreciated!!

    Thanks for your help!

Crisco. Sorry about your trip to Crab. As I posted before its just in a cycle right now of small fish. I dont know how long it will last but Rend is a better option. I camped in Gun Creek this past weekend and have many times. In my opinion it is the best one on the lake....well cleaned bathrooms...sandy areas to pull boat up...etc. I recommend the Cardinal loop. Site 55 is my favorite...right next to sandy area for boat..and looks out to the west for the sunset over the lake. Its also close to a good set of bathrooms and showers. BUT i am unsure about the tent thing. Dont know if they allow it on that loop or not. Id think if you pay money to reserve a site it wouldnt matter if you were in a willie nelson tour bus or a sleeping bag. But I dont know the rules. If you cant get 55 try 53 or 54 in the cardinal loop(assuming they allow tents) The fish are biting.

    Rich,
Poop is correct. You may use a tent on any site. But, 3/4 of the sites (loops) are reservation only and rest are walk up only. The reserve sites are mostly vacant ONLY Mon - Thurs. Non reserve sites can be full at times. Best go to Recreation.gov and scope it out before.
Tip: Don't wait till Friday to find a non reserve site. Won't happen.
I've been here last couple of weeks and it's most always at capacity. Very crowded.
Early to bed, early to rise,
Fish like hell, make up lies.

I went to Gun Creek campground today. Drove through to see what it was about. I was impressed. Also went out today and caught a limit on Rend. Fish are biting good! Shallow all the way up to 8 ft. You better get there while the gettin is good.

If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles.

Thanks for the input! We were able to reserve campsite #56 in Gun Creek so hopefully 4 days of great fishing!
