    Default The winter so far

I’ve been out on the ice a number of times in VT, some more successful than others. The early ice trips I caught a few yellow perch and bluegills but it was generally slow. I’ve been out a couple nights for smelt, once alone and once with a couple of my daughters. The last time out we caught 275 smelt which is a good night.
I went out a couple nights for crappie, one was pretty good and one was a bust. The pretty good night I caught a dozen crappie, a half dozen perch and a rainbow trout. I seem to do better on crappie as the winter progresses.
Anyone else ice fishing? I wouldn’t mind if it warmed up a bit, it’s been below zero most nights coming off the ice.

Sounds enjoyable. We typically don't get cold enough for lakes to freeze over but this last week has some of the ponds frozen. Thanks for sharing.

We have the ice here but I’m not equipped to venture out on it!

Haven't been since my last post. Not having a shelter, it's just been too cold and windy, plus the big snow we got put a damper on things. Maybe next year for that but at some point, pulling things around by hand, I'll have to say "enough gear already"! Especially since I said I wasn't going to get too deep into this sport when I started out again in '18. Should have known better, I guess..........

I've been looking for a post from you about ice fishing and wondering whether you'd been or not. Good to see that you've got some time out and about and by the sounds of it, a pretty good season so far for you.

Hope it continues and you post some more of your trips.

Sounds like your ice season is going similar to mine. I have been out 6 times with mixed results. Been exploring some different spots which haven't produced much. The really cold mornings have had me going out for a couple of hours in the middle of the day, which I don't usually find to be all that productive. Yesterday I managed to bring home 3 Crappie 11-12 inches. Which honestly is my most productive time out since my first trip which I posted about. Good luck to you in the upcoming weeks. I am going to keep at it myself.
