    We used to use a dip net to scoop them out of the river in the spring. I Love fresh Smelt

    We use to have great smelt runs in the spring here. But that was long ago......

    Now we just go to Ronnie's Ceder Inn and order a smelt dinner. Most of the time you can't finish it all.

    It is fun. This year and last it has been very slow fishing. I live on a river and the smelting has been going downhill for several years now. Lets hope it has bottomed out. If not it will be extinct. Good table fare.

    We don't have them down here, but I have rolled them in flour and fried em whole! They were small like French fries and good!
