The first time I tried this method, I thought it was accidental
that I had caught a fish, then I wondered if it had just followed
my jig until it stopped and decided to nail it. I tried it again,
and while reeling the jig up so slow I had to watch what I was
doing......it happened again... BAM!, another crappie, so to
make sure of what had just happened, I tried it one more time.
It was true......I was pulling the jig through a school or they
were following my jig up until they thought it was going to
escape, not sure just what they were thinking. It worked,
bottom line. Worth a try when things get slow.

Try the others when this doesn't produce and you may never fish any other way than this. It is real good. Be sure to watch the line when you "cast", too. If it stops going down before it should, you may not even get to the retrieve part. And it often pays to let the bait lay on the bottom for a bit and not be in too big a hurry to start the retrieve. Also be very careful at just that point where you pick the bait up off the bottom to start the retrieve. No part of this technique can actually be done too slow IMO. Be very aware that a whole lot of pickups when fishing this way will be very soft. I never move a boat either until I have tried this right down to under the boat in the boat shadow. There are times the school will move right up under you.

It works great at Dale Hollow at times. it also works great others places also.

I tried this method yesterday, it worked pretty well. I usually catch some here and there while pulling my line back up, but i''ve always been told that they usually hit on the fall, so i've never really focused on the retrieve until yesterday. The depth doesnt change much where i fish so i just pull out enough line to reach the bottom then drop the jig down instead of "casting" so i can feel the hit if they decide to take it on the fall. And instead of reeling, i pull the line slowly with my hand and give the line a slight twitch with my index finger then a pause, thats when they usually hit it. Just my method.
