    Default WP Slabfest Attendance

Hello all. I first want to say that I am very sorry to the fellows that are attending the West Point Slabfest. I told everyone up until the last moment that I was camping at the Shaefer Heard camp grounds and now I am here at the house 3hrs away. We arrived at the camp grounds Weds. at about 11am and had to wait for our site to be vacated before we could set up. While waiting my beautiful wife was casting from the dock at the boat ramp and cought a 1lb slab which ended up being the only fish cought the entire trip. The wind was blowing at about 20 to 25 mph and I wasn't about to go out in that rough water. As we settled down for the night we noticed that the wind never settled down. It was alot colder and it was forecasted to be in the 20's tonight and Saturday. I decided when we got up it would be much better to lick our wounds and go home. I was also not going to put my wife through this terribly cold weather. I tried to PM Trumpdriver before he left but I guess I missed him.
Again please accept my apoligies for not staying around. GOD bless you all.

    Rusty

RagFly Jig Man, You did the right thing. I'm supposed to go up tomorrow afternoon and take my wife & tomato hushpuppies & tater cutter. I may try to call Falcon Smitty tomorrow & see whats happening & wheather to come up there or not. I wish they would have canceled it & rescheduled it for another
weekend besides Easter week-end, but they lost out on a good turnout. I think
another week-end would have drawn a larger crowd, regardless of the weather.

yes sir Easter weekend is hard on some because of family. I'll be in my church pew Sunday morning between My wife and mama.:D I'll be having rabbit stew for dinner....j/k I'll leave the bunny alone. If we could shoot the turkey in there we could all eat for months.. they are everywhere in the park. Lines of them walking accross roads.

I schedule these events around the full moon. I didn't look at a calender just a lunar chart. I forgot about Easter. All of us did when I first posted it. I think matt pointed it out first but some had already sent money and others were reserved for months.http://www.crappie.com/gr8vb3/showthread.php?t=37583 It is fine that not many show up this weekend. we had a fun day today and are ready to catch some bigguns in the morning. We have 5 teams as of fri. night. I'll get another top 5 finish.
To all of you that can't make it I am sorry you missed it but we all can't be at every one of them. I had to leave Oconee in 2005 on Friday. That should be the last one I miss....I hope anyway. Slabfest are fun with a dozen or 100 people. great folks, good food, and fishing. Weather is weather we all fish in the wind and cold but Easter is Family time. Who's coming to the 12/25/2007 Slabfest..LOL

Rusty I am sorry that you have to miss it man. Even small slabfest are great. You have to do what is right for mama for sure... Plus there is no way your BACK could take the beating those whitecaps are dishing out this weekend....a little nippy too I might add. The next one is 5/19 aty Blackshear I know you will be there. I can't wait to get back down there myself... Blackshear is a beautiful lake. If I could pick any lake to fish my choice would not be west point.. I just don't like it and I am 45 minutes from it.

Vet park is filling up now yall so if you want a waterfront site you better call this week.

Hey Smitty, I wished that you would not keep beating yourself up about planning the Slabfest for this past weekend. I bet if the weather would have been better we would have had at least 5 more teams to join in. I knew it was Easter weekend from the very start and I still reserved my spot. People, another weekend probably would have been better but Smitty planned it by the moon phase because he wanted everyone to be able to catch those slabs. I know for a fact that Smitty plans these events with everyboady else in mind and not himself. I'll say it again. Smitty is one class act. I now consider this man a great and close friend of mine. May GOD bless you all.
