Your best bet and a way to make memories is to hire a guide. You will have a great time, you will learn some fishing secrets and learn the lake. You could camp and take your boat and after fishing with the guide you could use what you learned to catch crappie the next few days. It is a great way to get a leg up and your boys would love it.
