    Default Time to Get Out?

Hi guys (and gals)!! As some of you may remember, I moved into Georgia last year, and my intentions were to start fishing right away. Well, new job, new house, senior in high school, etc, etc, etc, caused me not to get out. I know, I know - if it was important enough, I would have got out. I have made it out to West Point one time (better than none) in the Spring, but not since.

I've been trying to post for a few months now, so this note is for two items - one to try and post, and second to ask a few question. Special thanks to Ed if this post does go through.

So, when does everyone start hitting the waters again? I'm in the Newnan area, so the closest lake to me is West Point, and I will probably concentrate on learning that lake. I'm not looking for anyone's secret spots, but a little help on where to put in, where to buy minnows (if needed), and general area would be great. Anyone have any interest in fishing on Sunday? It looks like a great weekend, and I'd like to get out.

    Thanks,

    ED

I can't help you much with West Point, but now is a good of a time as any to get started. I usually start gearing up for crappie in October and wide open by November...Love the Fall and Winter months!!!!!

West Point should be firing up like most of the GA lakes pretty soon. Hit the mouths of the major coves and creeks North of Yellow Jacket Creek on the Chattahoochee up to Ringer Access. Also the mouth to mid ways back on Whitewater hitting the points of the finger coves. Long line trolling will probably work better at West Point till the water gets colder since they will be up chasing schools of shad, unless you know where some good brushpiles are at then if you do drop a jig or straight minnow and split shot down to them. As for minnows, last good store I know of is at Wares Crossroads off of Franklin Hwy (27 I think). It is in a small stip mall type setup and a convenience store. Good luck!
