    Default Oconee Update 3/27/14

Yesterday we fished Sugar Creek from 8:30 a.m. until after 6:00 p.m. The final tally was 33 slabs and 2 hybrids. We fought the wind all day and caught most of the fish across the lake from the ramp. The water temperature was 56 degrees and the fish were holding a little deeper than they were last weekend. The bite was steady but improved later in the day. I believe we would have caught more fish if the wind had not been pushing us so hard. We ended up using the Yamaha to motor against the wind to a starting point and then drifted with the wind. We were pushing jigs and catching most fish in 14-16 feet of water. Acid rain, popsicle, blue/black/char. and john deere seemed to be the most consistent fish catchers. The two hybrids managed to foul 3 rods each before we could get them in the boat. Trying to steer the boat while rigging three poles with 64 year old eyes is frustrating. It does beat working though. We culled one fish all day. I would say the average fish was 12-13 inches.
