Thread: Longliners, Will this Dog Hunt

It would be a little heavy for longlining, unless you were in deep (40-50 ft) water, in my opinion. But, that same setup has worked for me pushing brushpiles. I prefer a flor. orange head though.

It will hunt especially in the fall, target 20-25 fow and it will run 12-14ft deep run .9-1.1mph. I use 1/8oz all the time in the fall of the year. The crappie will suspend half way of the water column which will put you dead on.

I like to use 1/16 oz. heads, but, I use some 3" baits that work great....Big Bite baits makes a "thumper"...it's like a slider on steroids. So, in answer to your question, yes...it will hunt.

good in deeper water, i usually use 1/16 but some times I'll double up and add a 1/32 color would work here when the sun is out

don't see any reason it wont work as long as you control the speed to keep it at the depth you want. Its about the same as a 1/16 with a #5 splitshot that I use when they are on the channel ledges

That will catch plenty of fish. I will run a single 1/8 on a long pole off the front with a short line sometimes and it works just fine. Good looking grub too. 3" grubs catch plenty of big slabs anywhere there are crappie. Heck I have caught 7" fish on a Bandit 300 crank bait running 1.5 - 2 mph quite often.
