Down Sized Al. Rig For Crappie
Has anyone tried the small size al. rigs on crappie? Pros & cons - trolling, casting
-
Yes, I have tried them many times and they may work great but I have had no luck. I run 2 rigs at Talquin and 2 rigged with double jig 2 feet apart and the double jigs caught fish but the 5 rig Al system did nothing. It should work on crappie, it sure works on bass.

I ran a couple of rigs at Blackshear...Within 10 minutes I got hung up and lost both of them. Maybe I'll try it again someday on a cleaner lake!!

They work better than a Lowrance HDS 12 for finding brushpiles, rockpiles, stumps, standing timber, christmas trees, road beds, and sunken treasure - but you spend a lot of time trying to recover the rig...
Seriously though I guess they could work well if you found a real hot bite on a flat without too much structure. Don't put them too far out the back and troll fasssttt. IMHO if your pushing or pulling a lot of jigs at once I think you are achieving the same effect - covering a wide breadth of water with a lot of bait to mimic a school.

I run them on 30 lb line on Bass Rods and I use Lightwire hooks. It helps to get them loose. I got mine from these Macon Boys. They work great with a good price.

If any fish are still in the 12 FOW pattern, I will run two down there. If they are in 5 FOW I may add a cork and drag behind the boat.
I will give some feedback on this. Heck I may try anything as we will be there 5 days and can only bring 120 back to Georgia.
