Thread: troling motor prob

Ive seen that happen when you have weak batteries. I always unplug my trolling motor when charging also.

make sure you don't have any metal near the head of the copilot,because it is magnitize and metal will effect it and make it move

I agree with Drill Instructor, weak battery. Try a good battery and see if it clears up.

thanks for the advice i did un hook the troling motor from the battery befor it got dark and put the battery on charge i guess we will see tommorow. thanks again!

Mine done this, used it hard for about 3 years, I found that my remote was bad, Got a new one , no more problems. Mine done it on the water, turned my motor round and round 3 or 4 times before I got it STOPPED! The cord got too tight, about 3 months later the cord shortage out and burned the board out, You got to be careful and watch how many times you turn it in one direction. That cord want hold up to getting too tight!

I dont know about all Minn Kota motors but my son and I have PD V2's with I-pilots and we found out that if we left the motors hooked to the batts when the boats were in the sheds the heads were a little warm to the touch. I gues that means they were still drawing from the batteries so now we unplug the motors when we aint fishing. (I hardwired mine in so I just pull the fuse.) That could be causing so dead batteries if your boat sits a long time between fishing (and charging).

update , went out to mess with it some more battery was at full charge so i hooked the trolling motor back up and pluged the copilot up same thing as yesterday still turning so unpluged the copilot and just pluged my foot control up and it worked fine turning in both directions . but the reason i bought the copilot last year was the foot control quit turning the troling motor on . so still sitting with no working troling motor and probably want get to talk to minn cota till next week. my working hours and theirs dont work together

oh yea changed batteries in remote to and that did not do any thing to help either so now trying to get in touch with minn cota. Thanks for all the tips! I have had this trolling motor on this boat since i got it 5 years ago and it has been very good to me so i hope i can get this little problem fixed and back on the water. this nice weather is killing me not getting on the water.
