I have a great pension and up until last year great health insurance. The Medicare Advantage plans saved us concerning health insurance. My thought is none of you younger workers are going to have those benefits. And I can tell you it is almost impossible to have enough money when you retire. Pay off your house before you retire and have a reliable vehicle and cut up them credit cards. Those little hidden things soon eat into your savings. That along with what just happen to our 401's scare me.
My wife and I decided to pay off the house this past Friday (12-12-08) and man it sure feels good in this day of uncertainty, we have both cars paid off, and all we like is about $3,000 dollars of credit card debt. I feel the pain these young people are going through in these days of uncertainty but it is time to keep the faith and know that GOD will help those who help themselves. It ain't easy to be debt free but it is worth it.

    Laser Doc,
I hate that for you and your family. I have a feeling my job my be going soon. Socialized medicine is going to destroy all aspects of our medical system. Many pharma companies are laying off everyday. Our stock went down 65% in just one day last week. These are scary times. You are a good man and you have many skills. The lord will look after you and your family. You will find something soon. I can only imagine how you must feel. I have always found that it is hard to understand WHY THIS IS HAPPENING TO ME when it is, but 6 months down the road it turns out to be a blessing. I hope this will happen to you also. You are in my prayers

maybe some of the customers will call you to do some repairs . don`t know if that is passable .
my son in law did pool service for a pool co last year his boss wanted to change their agreement on pay . he quit . a lot of the customers called and asked if he would keep servicing their pool . now he is making as much or more than he did :D.

Hey Chardonsdad now that you have yours paid off how about kicking in some on mine? I still got about 29 years to go.
    Birddog,

I pray that I may live to fish until my dying day. And when it comes to my last cast I then most humbly pray. When in the Lord's great landing net and peacefully asleep. That in His mercy I be judged, BIG ENOUGH TO KEEP.
