    Default replace carpet question ?


    Hey Guys,
    I have 1997 16 ft Grumman stick steer Panfish boat that need carpet replaced. do I have to drill out rivets in the floor or can they be covered ? thanks for any help. or if you know someone who needs to work let me know.

    I would absolutely NOT drill out any rivets in the floor of your boat, you can carpet over anything.

    Replacing the carpet is not that hard to do, just a little time consuming to do a good job...But like Outlaw said, I would not drill out any rivets!

    As Tim said cover any rivots in the bottom.

    i helped my cousin replace carpet in his grumman stick steer. we drilled all of them out. took all the panels out, scraped old carpet off,recovered and put them back in with new rivets and self tapping srews. everything but the floor had screws and the floor rivets go into the braces, not the hull, just don't use a long bit and drill through the hull! we actually grinded the heads off a few of the stubborn ones and that might work better anyway. really the worst part of it all was getting old carpet off. try to keep old carpet intact so you can use it as a pattern.
