I use Velcro cable straps to hold my hook to the rod when changing locations or putting my rods away after a trip. I don't have a boat right now so I use mostly 2 piece rods and the Velcro cable ties come in handy to cover the hook and to also hold the 2 rod pieces together. 50 pack from Amazon is $6.06!
