Default U.S. Marine new to site

Afternoon ya'll. Jarrid here. Just got stationed in southern California and I cant wait to start fishin. Really gonna target mostly crappie but dont have any knowledge of the local slab holes. I dont have a lot of opportunities to get out and learn each lake. Im looking for some advice for what you Crappie vets would do the very first time u get to a new lake to catch fish. Tactics, baits, times, anything u can think of. Im here to learn and appreciate any and all info u can pass along. I have a 14ft jon boat, outboard, trolling motor, and fishfinder. Im open to longlining, float fishing, slow reeling....anything but spider rigging...its illegal here. Thank you.

Welcome aboard. Where out there in the big sunny you stationed. Might help to direct you to some of them water holding holes out that way....You stationed in the Diego area 29 stumps, over in Barstow, or some where else out there...

You'll likely find that Crappie are Crappie, pretty much wherever they're found ... so, the conditions are the only differing factors. You'll probably get more localized tactics info, if you post your questions on the Calf. state forum. General info discussions on the Main Message forum are always helpful, too, so don't be a stranger to other forums of interest.

Personally, usually on a new lake ... I try & find similar places that I've had success on at lakes I am familiar with, and fish them the same. Don't try & figure out the whole lake in one trip ... break it down into creeks or areas & recon each one until you get familiar with the layout.

    1. Welcome to the site.
    2. You already got the patience, cause your acclimated to "hurry up and wait".
    3. As above stated, need to know your location, cause location is everything.
