Welcome Fern from west MI. I too fished the Foot in April, but it was two or three years ago. Also very windy...that's not unusual for that lake. I did get a tip from a campground host at Shelbyville Lake in Ill. on the way down. If the wind is keeping you off the main lake you take hwy 22 around the east side of the lake through Samburg to hwy 157 up to Walnut log Rd. and take that back down to the lake. You will be fishing in the cypress trees (which is a diff. thing for some of us). The fish will be right up nose to nose with the base of the trees. Go online and order youself maps of the lakes before you go. I caught all my fish on KY lake up the Blood River. Hope that helps. Blackhawk gave you some good advice.
