Hi everyone, Just wanted to introduce myself. Mainly a bass fisherman, but last couple years I have been very into Crappie fishing, especially in the spring, as a couple local ponds/small lakes are loaded with very good sized Crappie. I really enjoy fishing for them, as they usually can provide pretty steady action around here as not many people fish for them. I look forward to visiting this site to learn more and share anything I can that may be helpful.
This spring they have been hitting nearly everything; I usally just throw 2 to 3 inch grubs, sometimes 4 inch, on 1/16 or 1/8 jig head, and they always seem to hit it. If not, I just reduce weight, size of grub, and I can usally get strikes. Right now they are about to spawn, and they have been in tight since ice-out hangin' in the lily pads weed stems. I have also caught them on jigs (heavier skirted bass jigs with long craw trailer) this spring, and yesterday, while searching for some lurking bass, caught a crappie that I was sure was a bass, on a 6 inch texas rigged chatreuse lizard. They are just eating machines right now. This one was almost pitch dark in front and underneath, so I think that means they are about ready to spawn. Also have caught many large females last few weeks loaded with eggs, biggest one 2 pounds (that one really got me amped about crappie fishing). Tight lines.
