With that short of a rod, your leverage to "steer" fish is almost nil so you have to be careful around weed beds and structure. And a white bass will take ya for a bit of a ride! :D
True, you can't "steer" a fish very well with a short rod, but you actually have more leverage with one. That's why bluewater rods are short.
