Thread: Foam bugs

Weather wasn't good today, so I tied some saltwater and fresh water flies. My freshwater flies were made from foam bodies given to me by Capt. Pete Greenan in Sarasota.

Can't wait to try them out! Probably won't entice any crappies, but should take a few bluegill and bass.

If presented right I bet a Crappie would also fall for those also.

If the crappie are feeding near the surface you might just hook a bunch, but the gills are gonna love em!!!!!!!!!!!!!! River Road creations makes the shaped foam cutters for the ties you have River Road Creations Home and if you come up with an idea for one they'll help get it made for you although it's gonna cost.

Most of the guys I know that have them cut the bodies and then trim down with VERY SHARP scissors.

I know it happens but i have never seen a crappie hit a dry... Blue Gill will love those though... they look great!

Good-looking bugs!
Now, take a look at your trusty map and see where your location is in relation to Lafayette, La. If you are south of that latitude, then try those bugs (yellow in size 8) in early November in shallow (2 to 3 feet), shaded water around cypresses or gums. You should catch some crappie like that. I know I have! :D
And they are fun when they hit on top! :D:D

Nice flies and great book they are holding down! I bought a copy a few weeks back and have only had a chance to skim through it but what I have read is good I really like the fly selection section with recipes even though just having the list to look up the patterns is good enough.
