I need some advice. My dad has decided that the time to quit driving is here for him. He turned 85 last month and their 63rd anniversary is in feburary. Now for my delima. He wants me to put a price on his motor home and his truck. The motor home was no problem, but the truck is something I can not find very much reference on as to what it may be worth, hence me coming to yall for your input.
What he has for a truck is a cherry 1966 Chevy El Camino. He got it in '68 and has had it ever since as his "work truck" (drove it back and forth to work) till he retired. He still drove it 2 or3 times a month to "keep the seals oiled up". It is a inline 6 cyl, 3 on the tree, aftermarket a/c, 145k miles and has all the chrome and original hubcaps. The engine had a short block assembly done in the '80s, so the numbers don't match, which takes it out of a collectors market.
What do you think it is worth. Oh, forgot, he had it repainted and new upholstery(sp) done in the 80's as well, so it looks really sharp. Any help with this is greatly appreciated cuz I have seen everything from $3500 to$25,000.
Thanks
Dusty

That could be someones dream car, put it on e-bay and let the market say what it's worth.
If I were to be there in town, I would do a Ebay thing I think. Does anyone know how much the fee is for selling???Have all ways bought, never sold anything.
Thanks for the comebacks though, will sure try a few things to try and help out. May have to wait till May when I get back to Texas to help them out. Our older generation does not understand putting personal information on the net......oh well.
Thanks for the response.

Caenterdriver, as a hotrodder and dragracer for around 30 years I will give my opinon on what it's worth---extreme exc cond, stock, small block,I estimate a realiistic price could be $10,000 to 11,000 and that's if the sheet metal is in great non rusted condition, exc paint etc, restored, now if it were an SS with with a big block it would be worth considerably more.Since yours has a 6 banger,3 speed, plain jane type,I would say in extreme top notch ,excellent cond. $8500 obo would not be out of the question. I suggest you set a realistic price and list it on racingjunk.com to turn it and that would be a good place to do research as well. 66-69 are the most desirable El Caminos but not that popular in the collectors eyes and sentimental value ain't worth nothing in the car world.

Thanks for all the input. Have looked around and talked some more. Dad said if he could get $4200-$4300 for it, that would be twice of what he paid for it and he would be happy. Also told him to hang on to it till I came back so I could take some good digital pics of it to put it online. I am with Rawhide. Put a reserve on it and let the market say what it is worth.
Once again, thanks yall.

A friend of the family sold one recently for $6700. Had a small dent in the right rear fender but was all stock and in excellent condition if that helps. I wish I knew what year it was but I don't.
I love taking my kids fishing, now if I could just manage to fish at the same time.

Myself. I'd hope you keep dads truck in the family.
If he'd like $5000.00 for it, buy it and keep it in the family and take him places in it.
If in the future the money is needed, sell it, recoup the 5large and help pops with his needs.
Family ROCKS! That car is a big part of Dad's life. Please keep it in the family.
Oh,, or,,, I'll trade you a 96 Camry with 270K miles and a small dent in the rear right for it! I'll throw in some hand tied jigs!
