    Default Fl. fishing reg. question

The grandkids (6 of them..) want me to take them fishing wed.
I got no problem with that, but from past experience I know I will have no time to fish myself while helping them.
The 2 older ones-12 and 13 can pretty much take care of themselves with a little direction here and there. The 4 younger ones need lots of help.

What is your opinion on when help turns to actual fishing, which requires me to buy a lic.?

I'm thinking I can help up to the point of the line entering or exiting the water.
For example, baiting, tying hooks on,untangling lines, unhooking fish.....but no casting for them or reeling in.

Normally I buy both a fresh and saltwater yearly non-resident tag....but time and $$$ is limited this year-I will probably just get a 10 day after Christmas.

When Newton's Law kicks in,you'll be needin the license LOL,the fine is probably a lot stiffer than the license.

To clear up any questions I would definately buy a license. I think it is very admirable on what you are doing by taking those kids out fishing. The memories you will have will overshadow the cost of the licsense.

Will have to say I would "recommend" getting a license. On the other hand, if you do not set a hook, reel in the fish by your self (you could help hold the rod but not control it completely) and do the practice casting at home, you may well get away with it. Kids like to tie on a practice weight and get out in the yard. just line them up so no one is aiming (either accidently or on purpose) at anyone and teach them how. They will tire of it in about 15 min., but each time you do that it is fun for all and some learning is happening. Just going from personal experence.

I've had this come up a couple times before. Brought my girlfriend on the boat and she was not fishing just sunbathing. Ran into fwc and he was pretty cool about it and checked my fish, had My limit of fish and that was all. He said as long as he didn't see her with a rod in her hand and we only had only a limit for the licensed fisherman onboard it was ok. You case is a little different, you will be handling fish, bait, tackle, and maybe casting also. If a fwc saw you and didn't know you circumstance than he would assume you were fishing, which anyone would. Check with fwc and let them know what is going on, I've found most of them are pretty good about it.

Just buy the darn license.....support the sport, the law, and have fun with your grandkids without fretting!!!! You can find the $$$$$, just give up something less important than the grandkids! Don't intend to be mean. Send me an IM if you "REALLY" cannot afford a license.

    Thanks all!
    The issue wasn't if I would buy a lic.-but when and what type(3 day,10 day,year)

For all of you that can't sleep at night because of the suspense

I bought both a fresh and salt yearly yesterday on-line 98.66$total.
not so bad-gives me the excuse to go out every day to "get my moneys worth.." HeHeHee!
