    Default catching this fish

why do I get this way every year? This fish makes snook fishing seem like fishing in a barral and I just get obsessed with it. I fish a 7 acre private lake and have a boom or bust track record. I am going to be fishing it hard over the next 6 weeks. How about casting out as far as I can and slowly reeling in with a bobber and a minnow from the shore. Is that ok? This lake is maybe 15 feet deep so how deep do you think the fish should be? Yikes.

I too am obsessed with crappie because they are so hard to catch compared to everything else. I have been fishing crappie since september and have never really hammered them. Ive fished all over the country and have caught everything from sharks to freed aqquarium fish and crappie in Fl are the most frustrating.

I dont know how to answer your post

    Default Slip cork.

Try a slip cork about a foot off the bottom and work your way up from there. You should eventually find the fish at the right depth.

The farm pond I used to fish in Central Florida, just outside of Dade City, was also fished from the bank. I did not have a boat back then. I used jigs. I would just cast out and start a count down to see how long it took to hit the bottom. Then my next cast, I would let the jig sink close to the bottom and start a slow steady retieve. Sometimes they were deeper than others, but we always caught crappie. I never drowned the first minnow in that pond, but probably would have done well that way also.

never have used a jig, I have always been a live bait guy and I catch more than my share of snook out of hudson every spring and fall and am a pretty good fisherman so any suggestions on a jig? I am west of dade city by gowers corner. If anyone can post a pic for me just email me and I will send it to you. I just don't know how.
