Thread: catching this fish

I too am obsessed with crappie because they are so hard to catch compared to everything else. I have been fishing crappie since september and have never really hammered them. Ive fished all over the country and have caught everything from sharks to freed aqquarium fish and crappie in Fl are the most frustrating.

Try a slip cork about a foot off the bottom and work your way up from there. You should eventually find the fish at the right depth.

The farm pond I used to fish in Central Florida, just outside of Dade City, was also fished from the bank. I did not have a boat back then. I used jigs. I would just cast out and start a count down to see how long it took to hit the bottom. Then my next cast, I would let the jig sink close to the bottom and start a slow steady retieve. Sometimes they were deeper than others, but we always caught crappie. I never drowned the first minnow in that pond, but probably would have done well that way also.
