I discovered today.....and I am discovering more and more each day..that there is something on this new machine I did not have with the old one. It seems that Windows, in their infinite wisdom, have given some of us bored individuals something to play with....and you can go for hours and not realize it. If you have Vista and a mic on your machine, you can actually activate something called "voice commands" or something like that. You can click on it from your control panel.
It really is neat. Kinda makes me feel like the age of star trek is here. You can't turn the machine off or on, but you can make it do almost everything else....just using your voice. Start programs, dictate emails, surf the net, whatever. Just have to get use to it. I have played with it so much today (what else do I have to do for a few days) that I got off the computer and looked at the tv and said "Press Guide".Course nothing happened, but you can get hooked on it for sure.
If you have Vista and a mic, you can sure eat up some time just being on the thing.

Really?
Ha, I have XP on my desktop pc and just bought a Toshiba laptop that has Vista.
Im doing good just to be able to understand Vista with its excess garbage........I hate it.
Give me XP anyday.
And my daughter wants me to get a digital camera so I can post pictures? Yeah, right
will it work to make a post on here? This took me 13 minutes to type :O
It just takes time, and going through the tutorial several times, and printing out the command sheet (that helped me a lot). Also in the "speech recognition" folder, there is a section "Help your computer understand you better". That, over time, will make things faster and better. I showed my wife this morning and she said I needed to get better so I could devote my time to outdoor things instead of stepping into the 21st century so deep. I think she put it "hurry up and heal so you can get a life again" or something like that.

don't seem to have a mike, what version Vista does it take?--shu
p.s--nearly went this morning, but the winds had gusts to 18mph so tomorrow is another day.

Shu, if you click on your control panel and see "Voice Recognition", you have it. You will need a mic though if you do not have one built in. I am only aware of one Vista, but there may be another version. I just got this one about a month ago.
