I suspect they do it to "help" with boat travel and to keep it tourist friendly, I doubt whatever is sprayed on the plants is good for the environment, many of the water vegetation control formulas have copper in them and I also suspect they have unknown carcinogens in them as well.
Have seen Texas ruin several really good lakes by "controlling" vegetation , one spot that USED to have MONSTER coppernose bluegill all over it and HUGE bass until they decided to "control" the pads in there . the upside though is in killing the vegetation there the beautiful clear dark waters , turned the lake into a mudhole FULL of white crappie![]()
