It's been awhile since I have been out. But I made an early morning run to the river. I was the third trailer in the lot and the river looked empty. I launched and headed up river to my favorite spot. When I got there , there was already someone in my spot. ( guess that I didn't get up early enough ). I moved off to the side a little and set up to give it a try. After about a half hour, I pulled anchor and moved further back into the side river to my second favorite spot. I set one rod out on the bottom and picked up the second rod to do some casting.
On the second cast the lure stopped dead in its track, then turned and started to fight. Fish on !! It made a couple of nice runs then comes along side of the boat and into my net. I bring it on board when the bottom rod swings in the rod holder and starts to bounce. I drop the first rod and grab the second one. It's starting to look like a good day after all. I boat the second fish, It's a nice catfish. I let him go. I rebait the bottom rod and send it back out. I turn back to the first rod and take off a nice little sunshine bass.
I put the sunshine bass in the cooler just as the bottom rod goes off again. Another cat ! I let it go. I cast for another half hour but no more bites. I move on.
There is a little side creek with some good pads that look like it should hold some fish, I move my way in. I grab a dipping rod and start to drop a small jig into the pads. It wasn't long before I felt a pull on the rod.
After some thought, I decided that I should let it go. I worked my way back into the creek but kept getting all of his little brothers. Time to move again.
Back on the side river I talked to a couple the was working the shore line with a fly rod. He said that he was killing them the other day but today was not getting anything. He told me that yesterday FWC came through and sprayed and today, nothing.
I head to the last stop on this run for me and set up on a bend. I am back to the bottom rod and casting again. Casting was coming up empty. Then the bottom rod goes and makes a big swing in the rod holder.
by this time the sun is high and I am starting to see traffic on the river. I wrap up and head in. Only the sunshine made the ride home but it will make a good meal for me. It felt good to be back on the water again.
Pretty redbelly. Glad you got out some.
