As Crappkid said, I've been told as well, outboards under 25 hp are made by Tohatsu for other manufacturer's....I purchased a 25 hp electric start Suzuki on-line some yrs back & had no issues until needing service, where it was hard to find mechanic that worked on Suzuki's locally...parts availability & future service needs would be a good reference point to cover in this purchase, otherwise any warranty is not worth the paper it is written...good luck

I have/had 2 Tohatsus(50 TLDI, 20 4s) and have a 30 Suzuki 4s...all 3 are very reliable. Except for paint fade/redo on suzi 30 cowling, it is my favorite motor. Quiet, so are Mercs, I am fortunate to have a dealer in my area just 15 mins away. Also have a Yammy 70 4s that has been great since '06. My next rig, lol, will sport a white, mid-range Suzi. FYI, the 30 Suzi can push 1 or 2 occupants in Carolina J 16 @ 30 mph! Gotta watch those turns!! Love the fact of either electric/manual start up. Good luck, long warranty period.

What Jeff said is exactly why I say Mercury or Yamaha, plenty of Authorized service centers and parts shops. Finding an authorized Suzuki, Tohatsu or Evinrude service center to help with warranty if needed or parts is tough, and then the backlog of work in line is daunting. My first choice is always Mercury, boat I have now has a Yamaha due to MFG supplies with Yamaha only and no option to ship without motor.

Thanks for the replys. Ive decided to pull the plug on the new leftover 20 hp Merc.
Bad part is that now I need to drive back over there to have them put it on and set it up.
Thats a total zoo over there for traffic compared to this area of the state.
I bought a bare bones boat so I can add what I want and not what somebody else wanted, and frankly I don't want very much. I don't plan on being out in the middle of large lakes with it. Just along shorelines and back into the bad areas.
The boat is built like a tank, no rivets and heavier metal than most. I will be adding a marine grade plywood floor.
Im not a big fan of swivel seats, so it wont get much for seating other than the one rear bench it came with and a cooler to sit on up front.
Thanks again.
